4TH ANNUAL DOG WALK AND BLESSING OFTHE ANIMALS

SATURDAY OCTOBER 1ST

(RAIN DATE: SUNDAY OCTOBER 2ND)

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will host a Dog Walk and Blessing of the Animals on Saturday October 1, 2011 at the Beach in Warwick City Park, Asylum Avenue, Warwick, RI from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

The rain date is Sunday October 2, 2011.

A $10 donation includes an individual blessing for each animal by Pastor Peter Atkin, a special pet bandana and a St. Francis of Assisi ID tag. Dogs may enjoy a scenic 2.75 mile walk around Warwick City Park. A shorter walk is available for older or smaller dogs. All animals are welcome for a blessing, but only dogs are allowed on the walk.

Adoptable dogs from the Warwick Animal Shelter will be present. A special dog demonstration of “Out of the Pits and Into the Ritz” will be put on by Susan Parker of Dynamic Dog Training.

Participants may register between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM. The Dog Walk starts at 11:30 AM. Individual blessings will be performed throughout the day for everyone’s convenience. Water for the animals and dog waste bags will be provided.

All animals must wear a collar and identification tag. Proof of rabies vaccination is required with a current rabies tag or a veterinarian’s rabies certificate for every dog, cat or ferret.  Dogs must be on a leash at all times; cats, ferrets, rats, birds, etc must be in a proper, secure carrier or harnessed and leashed.

No retractable or Flexi leashes, please. Aggressive dogs, any dog under 4 months old or in any stage of heat will not be allowed to participate.

Donations of cans of wet cat food or wet dog food for the animals at the shelter are greatly appreciated.

Our faithful supporters have made all of these shelter improvements possible by your continued and generous support of our fundraisers. In the past years, we have installed central air conditioning to the dog kennel and quarantine rooms, a surveillance camera system, a 20’ x 50’ outdoor playpen with canopy for the dogs, a new washing machine, new epoxy floors in the cat rooms, new extra large stainless steel cages for cats and a water filtration system. Additionally, we help qualified Warwick residents needing financial assistance with spaying or neutering their cat(s) at the twice monthly low-cost spay/neuter clinic for cats held at the Warwick Animal Shelter.

THANK YOU for 5 years if support with our annual RESCUE RIDE. We started out as the first and only motorcycle ride helping animals. Our last ride in 2007 had 500 riders! Some of the hundreds of photographs from Rescue Rides 2003-2007 are posted: click here  RESCUE RIDE PHOTOS or copy and paste: http://homepage7mac.com/jwhittaker/rescueride/Menu96.html

If you took any photos in 2007 and would like to send them to us to be posted, please email them to themightypaw@aol.com  or burn to a disk and mail to Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter, Attn: Judy, PO Box 9285, Warwick, RI 02889. We lost some of our photos (don't ask but we switched to digital now and forever!!!) so we would be so appreciative of additonal pictures!

Six years ago, the Rescue Ride was the 1st motorcycle ride in RI organized to help homeless cats and dogs in need. There are lots of rides out there and Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter appreciates your continued support. Thank you all supporting a great cause for the last 5 years: helping homeless dogs and cats! Last year (2007), with a police escort to the Scituate Reservoir, we waved to 500 motorcycles (and lots of biker-dogs) riding to help homeless animals! Thanks to all: we truly appreciate your support.

Proceeds from the 2007 Rescue Ride were used to build an outdoor 20'W x 50'L outdoor playpen for the shelter dogs. The playpen will help relieve stress, provide socialization with other dogs and give them time out of the kennel, all of which will make them more adoptable. Friends purchased a surveillance system for the shelter to prevent animal thefts and abandonment of animals at the shelter. The water in the shelter has tested for high levels of iron. Friends installed a new water filtration system so the cats and dogs will have clean, pure water to drink. The washing machine unexpectedly broke down on a weekend. Friends purchased and installed a new washer before the weekend was over so the animals could continue to have clean sterilized bedding. None of these things would have been possible without your support!

All donations, no matter the size, is important and will benefit Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter, a 501(c)3 non profit humane organization {FEDERAL EIN # 05-0520691} dedicated to helping the animals housed at the Warwick Animal Shelter by helping the shelter stay a humane place for all lost, stray, abandoned, homeless and impounded animals.

Donations are tax deductible and may be sent to:

Finally, in light of the devastation of the floods of 2010, have a well thought out plan for your own animals in case of evacuation or disaster. PLAN AHEAD-most human shelters in RI will not accept animals. Have a collar and leash and make sure your animal is wearing an up-to-date ID tag that includes your cell phone number! Never abandon your pet(s). Visit www.hsus.org or www.aspca.org for complete information on disaster preparedness.
